(WFXR) – Downtown Roanoke has announced the return of the Freedom First St. Patrick’s Day Parade & Shamrock Festival. The parade is Saturday, March 15, at 11 a.m., rain or shine. ROANOKE, Va. (WDBJ) - Corned Beef and Company is celebrating St. Patrick’s Day with two events. General Manager Sal Russo sat down with 7@four to talk about the games and food the restaurant The Corned Beef and Co. Celtic Celebration and Martin’s Downtown St. Pat’s Street Party are also set for March 15 in Downtown Roanoke. The Freedom First St. Patrick’s Day Parade begins at 11 St. Patrick's Day kicks off a worldwide celebration also known as the Feast of St. Patrick. On March 17th, many will wear green in honor of the Irish and decorate with shamrocks. According to lore, the wearing of the green tradition dates back to a story written about St. Patrick in 1726.
